Happy Friday Kick Assers!! You made it congrats! How many of you are undergoing a cycle of change? I’m in the middle of some big developments and the changes coming with them still surprised me. I'm taking it as a reminder that the work is always ongoing. But here’s what I want to share with you this Friday… #1: My Company All Hands In will be going through some changes over the next few months, so stay tuned. (We are doing a LOT of adaptability work in our soft skills wheel house and those growing pains are never easy or fun BUT they will be worth it!) #2: Speaking of changes… One of best moments of personal growth and development came when I realized I was not meant to be everybody’s cup of tea. At first, this felt like rejection which brought sadness and pain- but the insight that followed has stayed with me ever since and that is this….
When we are working towards honoring our authenticity, we are learn that we are awkward, imperfect, and vulnerable. In essence- we are our most human in our authentic selves and this looks different on everybody. I have learned that my authenticity (a fierce, joyful, funny, opinionated, grateful, confident, puppeteer and heart-centered soft skills developer) does not fit into every space, and I have learned to be ok with that. Why? Because the people who don’t resonate with my authenticity are not my people and they don’t need to be. If I spend my time hustling for their approval I have to abandon myself to meet some else’s standards- and I don’t want that for myself or anyone else. So what does this mean for how I move through the world? I have accepted that not everyone is on board for my style of authenticity (as amazing and kick ass as it is), but I can still let “this little light of mine” shine wherever I go. This was very scary at first, and to be honest I STILL have days when it’s scary to be authentic and vulnerable, but I was suffering when I tried to compromise myself for the comfort of others. YES, there are still places where I dim my light (it’s a balancing act) - but I no longer snuff it out completely, and that's a big step. And YES, moving through the world in authenticity is a privilege but the goal is to at least start to develop an internal relationship that is founded in authenticity so we can learn to trust and love ourselves. This is the most kick ass gift we can give ourselves. As we go into this month’s theme I want you to think about how and where you practice authenticity. If you have no idea what your authentic self is, let’s work on finding out what that looks like for you as we go into this month’s theme. Speaking of monthly themes… #3 It’s June! And we have a new theme: CREATIVITY. I am a firm believer that we are ALL creatives. This month we are going to be exploring WHAT creativity is, WHY it is an important tool for our kick ass journey, and HOW to get creative about making creativity a daily practice. It’s going to look different on each of us (because true creativity is an expression of authenticity)- but that is what makes it beautiful. So stay tuned! So as we dive into creativity this month, let’s start by using awareness to discover what brings you delight, wonder, excitement, and serenity. Make a list and share with us. These will be your “authenticity touchstones” as we explore creativity. So this Friday I want you to remember that you Kick Ass just as you are. Your authenticity IS kick ass, and when you honor it by not sacrificing it for the appeasement of others, you may notice you have more room for creative pursuits, like playing with dinosaurs. Enjoy the weekend, Kick Assers. Get rest, love yourselves, and let’s get ready for some authentic creativity. Keep kicking ass, Kick Assers. You got this. XOXO
