Sanctuary: A place of refuge or safety. When I thought about choosing the theme of Sanctuary this month the first thing that came to mind was how we all need peace and calm right now. On the surface, the appeal of sanctuary just felt needed right now. But as May began to arrive and I started to wrap my head around how to approach this theme something else rose up and it was much more profound and impactful. The notion of sanctuary feels strong to me right now because many of us have been surviving without it. We have been just existing on a high stress cocktail of daily subsistence, grief, fear, anger worry, and drained energy. While most of us would agree we are better than we were a year ago, many of us have not been able to recharge, process, or mourn. In short- many of us are still navigating trauma, and it is limiting our ability to "return to normal." In short, sanctuary is important for our wellbeing. Creating and immersing ourselves in sanctuary may be the highest level of wholistic self care. This is why it's important. This is why we are exploring this theme. My hope is that at the end of May, you have the tools, resources, and confidence to explore and create sanctuary in your mind and your environments. This month as we explore the theme of sanctuary I will be tying it to soft skills but also putting it through the lens of unprocessed trauma and stress. This will hopefully shed light on why creating sanctuary is so important AND the potential of its power. As we embark on this journey please remember YOU have the ability to add, comment and post in this community- so if you have thoughts, resources, or ideas connected to this month's theme... please share them!
